Hey, there! So. Let’s talk about goals.
I’ve been feeling pretty motivated lately. I can’t say the same though for the last year of my life. I went through a lot mentally, and because my mental health wasn’t so great, I became unmotivated in a lot of areas. This included school, fitness/my overall health, etc.
Well, I’ve been slowly making changes (i.e. I started going to therapy, among other things – I highly recommend it for anyone thinking about going) and mentally, I’m in a great place. I also just moved into a new apartment with a good friend and the change of scenery has been doing me good. I think we can all agree that good change can have a domino effect of positivity in our lives. Not having the stress school brings me also helps… a lot.
Anyway, this all leads me to my list of goals I’ve created for this summer. The summer of 2019 just sounds promising. I can’t really explain it. I feel refreshed and ready to take on some *stuff*. Now, some of these might seem insignificant. Some of these are things you might already do every day, but I’ve thought of these because I feel they’ll further motivate me, and just overall be good habits to maintain. So here’s my short, yet carefully thought-out list.
Goals for summer of 2019:
- Make my bed every day
I read a quote somewhere that went something like, “if you haven’t done anything at all that day, at least you’ll have made your bed.” I feel that whenever I’ve made my bed, (11 pillows and all) I feel more motivated and organized.
- Make more coffee at home
Plain and simple… I spend too much money on coffee.
- Spend more time outside
I’ve always felt more connected to myself and in my relationship with Jesus when I spend time outside. I think being outside, especially during summer, is also just important for us “Oregonians” because it rains here. A lot.
- Be more intentional with my relationships
I’m a very relational person. I love showing the people in my life how much they mean to me. I feel I’m intentional already, but I want to go above and beyond. (This is very Enneagram Type 2 of me, yes. Any Enneagram-ers out there?)
- Be less sedentary
This one’s self-explanatory. I’m just setting this goal for myself so I get up and move more.
- Pay off debt
Yikes. This one is a tough one. I’ve racked up quite a bit of credit card debt in the past five years. I plan on working a lot this summer.
So far, I’ve read two books this summer! I used to love reading, and since college I don’t read as much as I’d like to.
- Dedicate part of every day to quiet time with Jesus
I’m honestly the worst at carving time out of my day for Jesus. It used to be something I just did, and now I’ve made my life “too busy” so I’m working to change that.
- Practice my Spanish
I’ve always loved learning and speaking Spanish. I took four years in high school, and got pretty decent at speaking and understanding the language. Being in college has given me less of an opportunity to speak it because I didn’t continued to study it, so I’m going to push myself to re-learn and practice.
- Write more, whether it’s journaling or otherwise
I used to be big into writing, whether it was free-writing for fun, or journaling after a bible study sesh. These days, that doesn’t happen as much, so I want to make a habit of getting around to writing more, at least weekly.
- Wake up by nine (most days)
This one is for all my night owls. I’ll be the first to admit it: I’m the person who will gladly sleep in till noon. Now, while I’ll do it, I hate the feeling of waking up so late. It makes me feel unmotivated and results in me being lazy. I know nine a.m. isn’t early for, honestly, most of you, but I’m setting a goal for myself to not wake up past nine (unless I really need the sleep).
So, there you have it! This is my list of goals for the summer of 2019. I’ve decided to actually write them out and stick them somewhere I’ll see them every day. (I recall reading somewhere you’ll be more inclined to do something if you can visibly see it every day.)
If you guys have any goals (long or short term, you’ve set for yourself, let me know in the comments below. Who knows, maybe one of yours will inspire me and others to add to our list!
