Hi there! I’m back with a new post, and honestly before sitting down to write this, I was feeling a little underwhelmed with my post idea. But then I realized that it’s okay to post content like this because it’s my life! So, today I’m just going to be doing a “round-up”/life-update on what I’ve been doing the past couple weeks, with some take-aways sprinkled throughout.
July 12th, me and Corvallis Young Life took high schoolers to camp. If you’ve never been to a Young Life camp, you’re missing out. I went the last two years of high school, and had the time of my life. I’ve now gone three times as a leader, but this was the first time I’d taken my girls as high schoolers. All my memories from Young Life camp are at Canyon (the high school camp), and so it’s always special to get to go back.
We spent five full days out at Canyon, and it was truly an unforgettable weekend. There was lots of laughter, tears, and moments with God I’m grateful for. The Lord really showed up that week in big ways for both me and my girls.
One of the most memorable parts of that week for me was a reoccurring question we’d discuss in cabin time every night. For those of you who aren’t “YoungLife-rs,” cabin time is the time we come together as a small group and discuss what we’d heard, learned, taken away, etc. from that day at camp and the speaker giving the talks on who Jesus is and why we should invite him into our life.
The question (or prompt, really) we discussed every night was, “if you really knew me…” and we could be as real as we wanted. So, I figured I’d share some with you all.
If you really knew me… you’d know I have terrible money-management habits.
If you really knew me… you’d know I have a fear of heights, but love rollercoasters.
If you really knew me… you’d know I’m insecure, but hide it well.
If you really knew me… you’d know I can recite the movie “13 Going On 30” in almost its entirety.
If you really knew me… you’d know that I’m prone to feeling alone.
I think that’s really cool to think about. Maybe try answering it for yourself. If someone REALLY knew you… then what?
Now fast forward to the following weekend where I went to two weddings, one of which I had the honor of doing bridal makeup for. I got to see two of my good friends, one I met in high school, the other in college through Young Life, tie the knot. Both weddings were beautiful, and reminded me just how much of a hopeless romantic I am. (I also discovered my love for wine that weekend lol.)
I don’t know if anyone else does this who hasn’t married yet, but I always make mental notes about what I want to take away for my future wedding. Follow my wedding board on Pinterest for insight (hahaha).
Finally, last weekend I took a fun weekend trip to Leavenworth, Washington for another (yes, another) wedding with my bff. I’d always wanted to go to Leavenworth and so the day after the wedding we got to walk around for a bit. Leavenworth is a Bavarian-themed town, filled with tourists. It was picturesque and dreamy, just liked I’d hoped for. It’s basically like you’re walking onto the set of a Hallmark movie, except for it was July and eighty degrees. I’m definitely going back someday soon though and staying longer.
So all in all, the past couple weeks I’ve been busy with high schoolers and weddings. I really can’t believe I’ve been to four weddings this summer (I already have three lined up for next summer). I’m not complaining though – I love weddings!
I’ve also been busy working which is why I haven’t been able to get a post up sooner. I was originally planning on doing one entirely dedicated to re-capping camp, and then the weddings, but I figured it’d be more fun to combine them. I like including lots of pictures in my posts too, and I have plenty of them. I’ll include some more at the end of this post.
I hope you all enjoyed this little life update, but look forward to more posts coming up!
Yours truly, Clare
